Art & Clara Cupler Legacy Society
Arthur Cupler was a lawyer born in Bradford Pennsylvania, raised in Chicago, admitted to practice law in North Dakota in 1906 and who in 1908, joined the law firm now known as the Serkland Law Firm of Fargo.
On May 10, 1960, Cupler along with seven other visionaries, created the FM Area Foundation. When Cupler passed away in 1963, his will created the Arthur W. and Clara Cupler Fund, the first scholarship fund at the FM Area Foundation. His wife Clara passed away in 1978, leaving another generous gift to the fund through her will. Today, that initial $355,000 has grown to $1.6 million. More importantly, since its inception, the Arthur and Clara Cupler Fund has distributed over $2 million in scholarships to help local students continue their education, and will continue to do so year after year.
Since its founding in 1960, the Foundation has received many gifts through bequests. These are gifts for the future of the community, upon the passing of someone who chose to leave a legacy through a gift in their will.
To honor and acknowledge those who have left or will leave a gift in their will to the FM Area Foundation and ultimately the community, we have created the Art & Clara Cupler Legacy Society.
Art & Clara Cupler Legacy Society Members Include:
- Individuals whose generosity included a gift to the Foundation in their will, estate plan or other planned gift that has been received.
- Individuals who have notified us they have included a gift to the Foundation in their estate plans.
We hope that creating this society and providing recognition to those who have already made a commitment to the future of the community will encourage others to make the same commitment.
