Donor Education Event Set for October 20

Donor Education Event Set for October 20

Charitable giving doesn’t always have to mean writing a check. For donors looking to make the most of their generosity, assets they already own, such as appreciated stock or funds held in an IRA, can offer additional ways to support the causes and organizations they care about.

The FM Area Foundation will host a free donor education session, “Support Your Community Without Writing a Check,” on Tuesday, Oct. 20, from 10 to 11 a.m. The session will be offered virtually through Microsoft Teams, with an option to attend in person at the FM Area Foundation.

The educational session will explore several charitable giving strategies, including:

  • Gifting appreciated assets, such as stock, and how this approach may help maximize the value of a charitable gift.
  • Qualified charitable distributions (QCDs) and how eligible IRA owners can make charitable gifts directly from their retirement accounts.
  • Donor-advised funds and how “bunching” charitable contributions can provide flexibility in charitable planning.
  • Estate planning basics, including how income and estate taxes can factor into charitable giving decisions.

This session is designed for anyone interested in charitable giving, whether you’re considering a gift this year or planning for the future. Attendees will gain a better understanding of strategies they can explore with their financial, tax or legal advisors.

The session is free, but registration is required.
