Patricia Skognes Leaves a Gift to Support Local Charities

A new fund created through the bequest of Patricia Skognes was recently established at the FM Area Foundation and will provide annual support for nine local charities.

Patricia SkognesPatricia grew up in Fargo attending Fargo Public Schools and later received a B.A. degree from Minnesota State Universtiy Moorhead and M.A. degree from North Dakota State University. She was a long-time Fargo teacher.

She spent much of her time volunteering. She volunteered one day a week for more than ten years at the American Red Cross bringing people to and from medical appointments in Fargo-Moorhead. Patricia was a member of the Fargo Retired Teachers, Cass County Area Retired Teachers Association, as well as state and national organizations.

Patricia enjoyed traveling and visited many countries and nearly every state in the US. Any progress being made in the Fargo-Moorhead area was of great interest to her.

“We are honored to steward Patricia’s legacy gift. The endowed fund in her name will continue to help support her favorite charities for years to come,” said Tim Beaton, Executive Director of the FM Area Foundation.

The following charities were named in her fund to receive support each year: First Lutheran Church in Fargo, The Fargo Salvation Army, American Red Cross – Dakotas Region, YWCA Cass Clay, Make-A-Wish Foundation of ND, Nokomis (which will go to the YMCA for childcare scholarships for low-income families as approved by the FM Area Foundation’s Board of Directors), Churches United for the Homeless, New Life Center, and Valley Senior Services.
