Walaker Family Memorial Fund Benefits Rebuilding Together Fargo Moorhead Area

The FM Area Foundation is excited to announce the creation of the Walaker Family Memorial Fund to honor the lives of Dennis (Denny) and Mary Walaker.

Mary Walaker was an educator and supporter of the arts. For 39 years she wrote school musicals, supervised science fairs, championed student learning and developed lifelong friendships. She was passionate about music, education, gardening and her family.

Denny Walaker was elected three times to serve as mayor of Fargo. He will be best remembered for his strong leadership during some of Fargo’s worst flood fights. But he was more than a flood fighter. He was an ordinary guy trying to build an extraordinary community. He was a champion for effective government, economic development, safe communities and affordable housing for everyone. And, even with his busy schedule, he made time for Bison football.

Proceeds from the Walaker Family Memorial fund will be used to support the operations of Rebuilding Together Fargo Moorhead Area (RTFMA). RTFMA is a local nonprofit that was started in 2011 to provide free critical home repairs for struggling homeowners with emphasis on helping senior citizens, veterans and people living with disabilities.

The vision of RTFMA is, “Safe homes and communities for everyone.” The lives of Denny and Mary reflect this vision. They stood up for the everyday person. They believed everyone should have the opportunity to lead a full life and they worked hard to create a better community.

We cannot thank them enough.
