Legacy Giving

You can leave a legacy by creating a permanently endowed fund through the FM Area Foundaiton. Endowed funds can be established today or through a deferred gift with assets from your estate. Planning an estate gift allows you to strategically accomplish both financial and charitable objectives. For many people, these objectives include preserving the family name, honoring loved ones, providing for heirs, minimizing tax burdens, and supporting the community you call home.

With your charitable fund you can support the causes and charities that are important to you even after you're gone. Another option is to create an unrestricted endowment to support the FM Area Foundation's grantmaking program to meet the changing needs of the people in the Cass-Clay area.

You can open a permanently endowed fund today with a minimum contribution of $5,000. Funds must reach $25,000 within five years. Once the fund reaches $25,000, gifts of any size are accepted.

How do I plan a legacy?

Call your estate advisor, talk to us, or consult with both. We provide confidential philanthropic services to donors and their professional advisors.

Giving a legacy gift is simple:

  1. Include a bequest or planned gift to the FM Area Foundation in your estate or trust plans and notify us.
  2. Upon your death, your gift goes directly to the fund you have established or to the existing fund of your choosing.
  3. Your legacy gift is permanently endowed. Grants are made on an annual basis, supporting the charitable causes you cared about during your lifetime, or helping support grantmaking in the Fargo-Moorhead area.

It doesn't take a large amount of money; all it takes is vision and action.
